Australia open to host tri-series involving Pakistan, India

Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive Nick Hockley has said that Australia is open to hosting a tri-series involving India and Pakistan.

Pakistan and India have only played each other in the events of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since 2013.

Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja had said he would propose the four-nation series to the ICC and said the profits from such a tournament can be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members. 

However, the BCCI showed no interest and secretary Jay Shah said the interests of the chief of cricket bodies across the globe should be on expanding the game of cricket and it is more important than "short-term commercial initiatives".

Now, CA have said that matches between the two teams is something that “everyone wants to see in world cricket”

Hockley opined that his board had not discussed the proposal but would be open to hosting Pakistan and India in a tri-series.

"Personally, I really like the tri-series concept. It's worked well in the past," he told reporters in Rawalpindi, where Australia and Pakistan drew the first test in their three-match series.

"There are really big communities of both India and Pakistan living in Australia.

"It's a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket and if we can help support further opportunities we would love to do that."

It must be noted that Pakistan and India are scheduled to play each other at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia this year on October 23.

The Men in Green outclassed India at the 2021 T20 World Cup where they claim a 10-wicket win, their first over India at the World Cup.
