A video featuring Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan has gone viral, igniting a wave of criticism from cricket fans.

The video, filmed ahead of Pakistan's first T20I match against England, captures a lighthearted moment among the national players but has drawn ire due to its perceived insensitivity amidst Pakistan's economic challenges.

In the video, Azam is seen holding US dollars while engaging in a casual chat with Babar Azam, who is behind the camera along with other team members.

At one point, Babar humorously asks Azam, “What happened Abba?” Azam Khan, wiping sweat from his forehead with dollars, responds, “Bohat garmi hain [It is too hot here],” prompting loud laughter from the players.

However, the seemingly innocent exchange has not been well-received by many fans. Criticism has poured in on social media, with users highlighting Pakistan's severe economic hardships and food shortages.

“Apart from a rare few in Pakistans sporting history, none have the charisma, impact and influence of any kind, nothing for a young kid to aspire about. The current lot is just hopeless," wrote a user on social media.

Another user emphasized the need for education, stating "“That's why we always keep saying basic education is a must, these people travel to the world but don't learn the basic humane values. Send them to school pls before you send them to an international platform."

Some fans expressed anger over the perceived insensitivity of the cricketers.

“People are dying due to food shortage in Pakistan, and this guy, instead of donating money to them, is paying for interet wifi and expensive mobile while sitting under a roof and mocking poor people," wrote another user.

The backlash comes as Pakistan arrived in England for a five-match T20I series in preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024. The series, which begins on May 22, is crucial for the team's preparation.
