It was anticipated that following the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, Azhar Ali would take the reigns as the dependable senior player. However, since then, the right-hander has failed to live up to what was expected of him and has often fallen short in terms of getting runs.
The struggling Azhar Ali was promoted up the order to open the innings just so he could still represent Pakistan. However, his performances remained mediocre for the most part comparable to what was expected of him.
Having been moved back to his original position, Azhar has failed to convince the fans of his performances as the fanbase is uniting to boot him off the team to make space for a youngster instead.
