Babar Azam at risk of losing No. 2 ICC ODI ranking

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is just 14 points away from overtaking Pakistan’s Babar Azam for the second spot in the latest ICC ODI batters' rankings.

Rohit moved up two places to third after his outstanding performance in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, where he was named Player of the Match. He played a crucial knock of 76 runs off 83 balls, helping India secure the title.  

His teammate Virat Kohli also made progress, climbing to fifth place after scoring 218 runs in the tournament.  

New Zealand players saw significant improvements in the rankings as well. Daryl Mitchell moved up to sixth place, while Rachin Ravindra jumped 14 places to 14th, and Glenn Phillips rose six places to 24th.

Among Pakistani batters, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan stayed at 19th and 21st, respectively. Imam-ul-Haq dropped to 31st, while Saim Ayub moved up to 36th.  

In the bowlers' rankings, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was the biggest gainer, climbing six places to second after taking nine wickets in the tournament, including two in the final.  

Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana continues to be the top-ranked ODI bowler. New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell made a big jump as well, rising 10 places to 18th.  

Indian spinners also improved their rankings. Kuldeep Yadav moved up to third after taking seven wickets in the tournament, while Ravindra Jadeja climbed to 10th following his five-wicket haul in India’s unbeaten run.  

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi held onto his ninth spot, while Haris Rauf slipped to 25th. Naseem Shah is currently ranked 43rd.  

In the all-rounders' rankings, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai remains at the top. However, New Zealand players made strong gains, with Santner reaching fourth, Bracewell moving up to seventh, and Ravindra climbing to eighth after their standout performances in the Champions Trophy.
