Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, shared his thoughts following his team's loss to Multan Sultans in the Qualifier of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine in Karachi.

Azam mentioned that his team fell short by about 20 runs from what he considered to be a par score while batting first. Despite getting a good start, they lost wickets in the middle overs, preventing them from finishing strongly.

"We got a good start but lost wickets in the middle overs. I thought 160-170 was a par score but we couldn't finish well,” Azam said.

Reflecting on his own performance, Azam stated that if he had stayed on the pitch till the end of the innings, the outcome might have been different. However, he acknowledged the quality of Multan Sultans' bowling, which contributed to his early dismissal.

“They bowled well so I tried to build the innings but I got out early. If I stayed there, maybe it would have been a different ball game,” he further added.

It is worth noting that Multan Sultans convincingly defeated Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets to secure a spot in the PSL 2024 final. This marks Mohammad Rizwan's side's fourth consecutive appearance in the PSL final.

Peshawar Zalmi, led by Azam, will have another opportunity to qualify for the final on March 16, facing either Islamabad United or Quetta Gladiators in the eliminator, which is scheduled for Saturday.
