Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam played all three matches of the ongoing T20 World Cup in “severe distress” due to his mother’s illness.

According to Babar’s father, Azam Siddique, the batter’s mother was on ventilator, fighting for her life, during the match between Pakistan and India.

“Now my nation should know some truth. Congratulations to all of you on the victory of all three. There was a big test at our house. On the day the match was against India, on that day Babar's mother was on a ventilator. Babar played all three matches in severe distress. I didn't want to come here but I came so that Babar may not get weak. It is the grace of God that she is fine now,” wrote Azam Siddique, in an Instagram post, along with a family picture.

“The purpose of sharing this is that we should not criticise our national heroes without any reason…Long live Pakistan,” he added.

Later, while talking to Cricket Pakistan, Babar’s father also requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to let him meet his son at this difficult time. He added that social distancing will be kept in mind, due to the tournament’s bio-secure bubble, if the permission is granted.

“I was planning to return home today but Babar’s mother called and asked me to stay in UAE as she is now feeling much better,” Azam concluded.

Despite the difficult situation, Babar continued to lead the Pakistan team from the front, winning all three matches, with fifties in matches against India and Afghanistan.
