Babar Azam slips in latest ICC ODI rankings as Indian batter climbs to second

Babar Azam has dropped to third place in the latest ICC ODI rankings after a poor run with the bat in Pakistan’s recent series against the West Indies. The star batter managed only 56 runs in three matches at an average of 18.66.

Babar, who previously held the second spot, now has 751 rating points and has been overtaken by India’s captain Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill continues to lead the rankings as the number one ODI batter in the world.

Among other Pakistani players, ODI skipper Mohammad Rizwan slipped one position to 22nd with 602 points. Fakhar Zaman, who missed the West Indies series due to injury, dropped four spots to 27th. Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha also fell in the rankings, moving to 37th and 41st respectively.

Saim Ayub saw the biggest fall, dropping nine places to 46th, while Abdullah Shafique made gains, climbing seven spots to 90th with 428 points.

In the bowlers’ list, Shaheen Afridi went down one place to 13th with 599 points after taking four wickets in two ODIs. Haris Rauf dropped to 27th, Naseem Shah slipped to 43rd, while Abrar Ahmed rose to 54th. Mohammad Nawaz stayed at 64th, and Mohammad Wasim Jr fell to 71st.

Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana remains the top-ranked ODI bowler, with India’s Kuldeep Yadav in second and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj in third.

In the T20I rankings, Pakistan’s bowlers have made steady progress, while the team’s batters have continued to slide.

Fast bowler Haris Rauf jumped two spots to 24th with 575 points, while fellow pacer Abbas Afridi rose one place to 26th with 572 points. Spinner Sufiyan Muqeem and left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi also improved, moving up to 33rd and 34th with 542 and 541 points, respectively.

On the downside, spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Abrar Ahmed dropped two and one positions to 58th and 61st. All-rounder Shadab Khan slipped one place to 73rd.

New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy remains the top-ranked T20I bowler, followed by England’s Adil Rashid in second and West Indies’ Akeal Hosein in third.

In the batting charts, Pakistan’s senior duo Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan — both absent from T20I cricket since 2024 — each fell one spot to 18th and 20th. Middle-order batter Hassan Nawaz dropped two places to 32nd, while Saim Ayub slipped to 38th with 559 points.

Other declines included opener Sahibzada Farhan (64th), T20I skipper Salman Ali Agha (77th), left-hander Fakhar Zaman (79th), and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, who fell two spots to 88th.

India’s Abhishek Sharma continues to lead the T20I batting rankings, with Tilak Varma climbing to second and England’s Phil Salt taking third after Australia’s Travis Head fell to fourth.
