Ahead of Pakistan's opening match against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, captain Mohammad Rizwan has confirmed that Babar Azam will continue to open the batting for the team.

This settles any speculation regarding his position in the playing XI for the tournament.

During a press conference on the eve of the match, Rizwan expressed confidence in Babar's role as an opener, saying, "Babar Azam will open for Pakistan. We need a left-right combination in the middle overs, and Babar is satisfied with the position."

Rizwan further expressed his belief in his abilities, stating, "Babar Azam is a great player, and we have high expectations from him. He is a key part of our team, and we are hopeful he will play a crucial role in our success."

Pakistan will face off against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy opener tomorrow, Wednesday, 19th February.
