Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder, Mahmudullah Riyad, has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. 

The right-handed batter, who was part of the Bangladesh squad that exited the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 at the group stage, shared the news through his social media platforms on Wednesday.

In his emotional retirement post, Mahmudullah expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his career.

“All praises only for the Almighty Allah. I have decided to retire from international cricket,” Mahmudullah wrote.

He continued by thanking his teammates, coaches, fans, and family members for their unwavering support.

“I would like to thank all of my teammates, coaches & specially my fans who has always supported me. A big thank you to my parents, my in-laws specially my father-in-law & most importantly my brother Emdad Ullah who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach & mentor," he further wrote. 

"And finally, thanks to my wife & kids who have been my support system through thick & thin. I know Raeid will miss me in red & green jersey,” he further wrote. 

Mahmudullah also extended his best wishes to Bangladesh cricket, stating, “Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way but you say yes & move forward. PEACE........... Alhamdulillah.”

He concluded his message by sending his best wishes to his teammates and the future of Bangladesh cricket.

"Best wishes to my team & Bangladesh cricket," he concluded. 

The 39-year-old all-rounder made his international debut in 2007 and had a distinguished career, representing Bangladesh in 50 Tests, 239 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 141 T20Is. Over the course of his career, he scored 11,047 runs across all formats, including nine centuries and 56 fifties. Mahmudullah also took 166 wickets in international cricket.
