Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Zia Uddin Rahman, issued the order on Monday in a case related to bounced checks
Bangladeshi court has ordered the seizure of cricketer and former Member of Parliament from the Awami League, Shakib Al Hasan's assets.
According to foreign media reports, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Zia Uddin Rahman, issued the order on Monday in a case related to bounced checks.
Mr. Hasan, the former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team established a crab farm named Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm in southwestern Satkhira in 2016. The company has reportedly been inactive since 2021. The checks in question were issued to repay a loan taken by Shakib’s company from a bank. However, the checks bounced due to insufficient funds.
Reports state that in October 2024, Bangladesh Bank issued a legal notice regarding the bounced checks, and subsequently, on December 24, a case was filed against Shakib and three other officials of his company.
In January, the court issued arrest warrants for Shakib in connection with the case.
It is worth noting that Shakib Al Hasan has been residing outside Bangladesh due to threats on his life, linked to political unrest and his association with the Awami League. He is also named in a case related to the killing of a young man during anti-government protests last year.
