Bangladesh secured a dramatic seven-run victory over West Indies in the first T20I at Arnos Vale Ground, St. Vincent, marking their first T20I win against the Caribbean side in six years. The match delivered high drama as Hasan Mahmud’s brilliant final over sealed the contest for Bangladesh on the eve of the country’s Victory Day celebrations.

Defending 147, Bangladesh reduced West Indies to 38 for 5, thanks to Mahedi Hasan’s sensational spell of 4 for 13. However, Rovman Powell’s blistering 35-ball 60, featuring four sixes and five fours, almost snatched victory for the home side. Powell’s late fireworks, including a 23-run over off Taskin Ahmed, brought West Indies within touching distance before Mahmud dismissed him and Alzarri Joseph in the final over to seal the win.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings was powered by Soumya Sarkar’s 43, supported by a quick cameo from Shamim Hossain. The visitors struck nine sixes, their highest tally against West Indies in T20Is, to post a competitive total of 147 for 6. Akeal Hosein led West Indies' bowling attack, claiming 2 for 13 in the powerplay, while Obed McCoy also picked up two wickets.

This nail-biting victory sets the tone for an exciting series, with the second T20I scheduled for Wednesday and the final T20I set to take place on Friday.
