Bangladesh’s overall performance and better net run rate ensured their qualification
Bangladesh have secured their spot in the ICC Women’s World Cup, joining Pakistan among the teams that have successfully qualified for the mega event.
Despite an explosive batting display by the West Indies women’s team, they failed to earn a place in the World Cup due to an inferior net run rate.
Pakistan had already qualified earlier, and in their final match, they defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets. However, Bangladesh’s overall performance and better net run rate ensured their qualification.
In a crucial match held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Thailand Women set a target of 167 runs for West Indies Women. For West Indies to qualify, they needed to chase the target in just 10.1 overs. Though they won the match by scoring 168 runs for 4 wickets in 10.5 overs, it wasn’t enough to secure World Cup qualification.
West Indies captain Hayley Matthews played a blistering knock of 70 runs off 29 balls, while Shamilia Connell added a quick 48 from just 17 deliveries. Earlier, Thailand were bowled out for 166 runs in the 47th over.
At the end of the event, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi distributed prizes. Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce was named Player of the Tournament for her outstanding performance, scoring 293 runs.
