Bangladesh secures historic Test win over West Indies after 15 years

Bangladesh celebrated a historic Test win over the West Indies, ending a 15-year drought in the Caribbean with a 101-run victory in Jamaica on Tuesday. This win, which came on the fourth day of the match at Sabina Park, marked their first Test win in the West Indies since 2009.

The star of the match was Bangladesh’s experienced spinner, Taijul Islam. He took five wickets in the West Indies’ second innings, finishing with figures of 5/50. This was his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests. Thanks to his performance, the West Indies were bowled out for just 185 runs, setting Bangladesh up for a historic victory.

The win not only helped Bangladesh level the two-match series 1-1 but also lifted them from the bottom of the World Test Championship standings. They now sit in eighth place, ahead of the West Indies.

Bangladesh's strong performance was supported by several players. Fast bowler Nahid Rana took his first-ever five-wicket haul in the first innings, finishing with 5/61. Pacer Taskin Ahmed also bowled well throughout the match and was named joint Player of the Series. Jaker Ali contributed a crucial 91 runs to help set the West Indies a tough target of 287 runs to win.

While Bangladesh will be proud of their historic win, the West Indies have a chance to catch up when they face Pakistan in a two-match series early next year. But for now, Bangladesh will carry the confidence from this important victory into their next series.
