Opener D’Arcy Short starred as Hobart Hurricanes defeated Melbourne Stars by 59 runs in match 31 of the Big Bash League (BBL).

Australia opener scored an unbeaten 96 of just 57 deliveries with help of eight boundaries and four maximums.

Chasing 186, Stars were bundled out for just 126 in 17.1 overs, courtesy Riley Meredith’s brilliant spell — who claimed four wickets for 21 runs in his four overs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Seb Gotch top-scored with 35 runs for the losing side.

Earlier, thanks to a brilliant innings of Short, the Hurricanes managed to post a huge total of 185-2 in their 20 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mathew Wade and Short provided a 95-run stand for first wicket with Wade eventually departing after scoring 41.

Liam Bowe and Tom O'Connell claimed a wicket each for stars.
