BCB President, Faruque Ahmed, has assured that players in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will receive their payments, even though most franchises failed to meet financial compliance requirements
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President, Faruque Ahmed, has assured that players in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will receive their payments, even though most franchises failed to meet financial compliance requirements.
This year, only Fortune Barishal, the defending champions, provided the mandatory bank guarantee that ensures players' payments if franchises fail. Without these guarantees, uncertainty surrounds the payment process.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Faruque said, “We have been in contact with the franchise owners since the beginning and have emphasized that they must pay the players. While I cannot pinpoint the exact reasons for their failure to provide the guarantee money, we are working to ensure players are paid.”
The BCB chief reassured players, saying, “As the board president, I have personally spoken to franchise representatives. They are key partners in Bangladesh cricket, and we trust they will fulfill their responsibilities. Steps are being taken to resolve this issue.”
Durbar Rajshahi’s captain, Anamul Haque Bijoy, confirmed the delayed payments during a press interaction on the tournament’s opening day. However, he expressed optimism about the situation.
“None of us have received payments yet, but we are not worried. The BPL is a global event, and we don’t want such issues to tarnish its reputation. We believe the delay is due to logistical reasons and trust that both the franchises and the BCB will resolve it soon,” Bijoy said.
