Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials announced on Saturday that they have not issued a no-objection letter for batter Afif Hossain to participate in the ongoing Global T20 League.

This decision is due to his commitment to the High-Performance Unit’s white-ball squad on the current tour of Australia.

Afif is leading the one-day squad in a tri-series that also includes Pakistan Shaheens and Northern Territory Strike. He is also part of the T20 squad set to compete in the Top End Series, which features teams from the Big Bash League alongside Shaheens.

According to sources at The Daily Sun, Afif received an offer from Bangla Tigers Mississauga to join their lineup for the Global T20 League after arriving in Australia for the white-ball series. Afif subsequently sought an NOC from the BCB, which was ultimately denied.

A BCB official explained, “Yes, he (Afif) had requested for a NOC to take part in the Global T20 but we could not give that to him as he is the captain of the HP Unit’s one-day squad while also included in the T20 squad for the following tournament. If he had applied earlier for the NOC to play GT20 in that case we could have made different plans.”

While Afif will not be participating in the Global T20 League, Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam have been granted permission and are playing for Bangla Tigers Mississauga.

They are expected to rejoin the Bangladesh Test squad before traveling to Pakistan for the two-match Test series, which begins on August 21 in Rawalpindi.
