The notice was issued by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmood Alam on behalf of fellow lawyer Md Rafinur Rahman
A legal notice has been served to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requesting the removal of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan from the national cricket team as he is accused in a high-profile murder case.
The notice was issued by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Sajib Mahmood Alam on behalf of fellow lawyer Md Rafinur Rahman.
The legal notice demands that Shakib, currently with the Bangladesh national cricket team in Pakistan, be recalled to the country to facilitate a proper investigation into the murder case.
The case, filed at Adabar Police Station on August 22, accuses the former Bangladesh skipper of being involved in the murder of garment worker Md Rubel.
In the notice, Barrister Alam argued that the presence of a criminally accused individual in the national cricket team is a violation of International Cricket Council (ICC) rules.
"As per the International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, Shakib cannot continue as a part of the national team under these circumstances," Alam stated.
He stated that for the integrity of Bangladesh cricket and sports, Shakib must be suspended from all forms of cricket.
The murder case implicates Shakib Al Hasan as the 28th accused, alongside former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and approximately 156 other named individuals. Additionally, 400-500 unidentified individuals have been accused in the case.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Faruque Ahmed has said on Saturday that they will take a decision regarding Shakib Al Hasan's future after the ongoing Test against Pakistan.
