Shahriar Nafees announced that the board will be reaching out to all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the coming days
Shahriar Nafees, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) in-charge of cricket operations, announced that the board will be reaching out to all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the coming days.
Currently, Shakib is participating in the Global T20 league in Canada. Bangladesh's national team is set to embark on a Test series in Pakistan, with the first match scheduled to commence on August 21.
At a press briefing, Shahriar revealed that the BCB is optimistic about beginning the national team's practice sessions by Thursday. He noted that the coaching staff is actively preparing for the upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh A team has started its training in Mirpur today.
"Shakib Al Hasan's NOC is till August 12. On August 13, he is supposed to return to the country and report to us. He still has two to three matches remaining and we will communicate with him and try to know his plans," Shahriar said.
Recent political instability following the fall of the Awami League government on Monday has raised security concerns, particularly for Shakib, who was a Member of Parliament for the ruling party. Shahriar clarified that Shakib is now solely a cricketer.
"Shakib is a cricketer now. Yesterday night, as per president's order, Shakib is no longer a MP. He is only a cricketer now. Every human being has security concerns. Since he has an NOC till 12th, after that he is supposed to join us. BCB's selection panel has not announced the team for Pakistan yet. When they announce the team, if he is picked, there are separate measures and if he is not there then another one. If he is not there then his NOC is not useful," he said.
In the meantime, the Bangladesh A team, including players like Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim, is undergoing fielding and net sessions.
The team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan on August 9, with their first four-day match now starting on August 13. This adjustment has led to a rescheduling of the rest of their fixtures.
The BCB is navigating a period of uncertainty following the political upheaval, but some board officials resumed work yesterday as the organization seeks to stabilize operations.
Despite the absence of several officials, including President Nazmul Hassan Papon, those present are continuing to follow the pre-established plans. The BCB has received assurances of security from the army, who visited the premises yesterday.
