The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the updated schedule for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The tournament, which was suspended on May 9 due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan, will now resume on May 17 and conclude with the final on June 3.
In a statement issued on Monday, the BCCI confirmed that the remaining fixtures will be played across six venues: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. A total of 17 matches will be held, including 13 league matches and four playoff fixtures.
Two double-headers are also scheduled for consecutive Sundays. The first will take place on May 18, with Rajasthan Royals (RR) facing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the afternoon (3:30 PM IST), followed by Delhi Capitals (DC) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the evening.
The second double-header will be on May 25, with Gujarat Titans (GT) taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Ahmedabad in the afternoon, while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Delhi later that evening.
The delay of the IPL means that the tournament, originally scheduled to end on May 25 in Kolkata, will now overlap with the ODI series between England and the West Indies, set to begin on May 29 in Birmingham and conclude on June 3 at The Oval. This overlap is likely to create scheduling conflicts for several West Indies players, including Romario Shepherd (RCB), Shamar Joseph (LSG), and Sherfane Rutherford (GT), who are part of the West Indies ODI squad.
While England's squad has not been announced yet, players like Jos Buttler (GT), Phil Salt (RCB), Jacob Bethell (RCB), Liam Livingstone (RCB), Will Jacks (MI), and Reece Topley (MI) could also be affected, depending on which teams qualify for the playoffs.
The revised IPL schedule also shortens the gap between the IPL final and the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played between Australia and South Africa at Lord's starting on June 11. This means that there will only be seven days between the IPL final and the WTC final.
Additionally, the abandoned match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals on May 8 will now be replayed in Jaipur on May 24. Punjab Kings will also play their remaining two games in Jaipur, as Mohali is not included among the venues for the resumption of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, still in contention for a playoff spot, will play their final home game at the Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals on May 21.
The suspension of the tournament came after the cancellation of a match in Dharamsala due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. Several overseas players have already left India, and it remains uncertain how many will return, especially with international commitments fast approaching.
Attention will be on players from Australia and South Africa, particularly those involved in the World Test Championship Final, which starts just a week after the IPL final concludes.
