Defending champions India have announced a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, with several big names returning to the fold as the team looks to secure a record-extending ninth title.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side, with Shubman Gill appointed as his deputy. The squad reflects a balance of youth and experience, with selectors rewarding consistent performers from the past year while recalling senior players who had been rested or sidelined.
The biggest highlight is the return of Jasprit Bumrah, who makes his comeback to India’s T20I setup after more than a year. The pace spearhead last played limited-overs cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup, before being rested from white-ball action and later missing the Champions Trophy due to injury. He now rejoins the squad to lead India’s bowling attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and young quick Harshit Rana.
The batting unit features a mix of proven stars and exciting new names. Alongside captain Suryakumar Yadav, the squad includes the returning Shubman Gill and the in-form trio of Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh, all of whom enjoyed breakthrough performances in the last 12 months.
In the wicketkeeping department, Sanju Samson has been named first-choice, having forged a strong opening partnership with Abhishek in recent series. Jitesh Sharma provides additional cover with both gloves and the bat.
The all-round strength comes from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, who were central to India’s recent ICC triumphs, while Shivam Dube adds further depth to both batting and bowling.
Spin responsibilities will be shared between Varun Chakaravarthy, who impressed during the Champions Trophy in the UAE, and Kuldeep Yadav, making his T20I return since the 2024 World Cup final.
India’s campaign begins on September 10 against hosts UAE in Dubai, followed by a much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14. The group stage concludes with a match against Oman on September 19, before the Super Fours and final in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
