The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced significant changes to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
The Indian team, which is set to play a five-match T20 series starting on July 6, will see three new players for the first two matches.
Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube have been replaced by Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana for the initial games of the series.
While Harshit Rana and Sai Sudharsan were initially considered for the original squad, they were ultimately left out by the selectors. However, unforeseen circumstances have necessitated their inclusion now.
The adjustments come as a result of the Indian team encountering travel delays in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Samson, Jaiswal, and Dube are among those currently stranded in Barbados, and the team is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Wednesday evening. This delay would prevent the trio from participating in the early matches of the tour.
Despite their absence in the first two games, Samson, Jaiswal, and Dube are anticipated to join the squad for the final three matches of the series.
Updated squad for Zimbabwe tour (First two matches):
Shubman Gill (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande, Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, Harshit Rana
