The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to display Pakistan’s name on the Indian team’s jersey for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, according to reports. This move has upset the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has called for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to intervene.

It is a tradition in ICC tournaments for teams to include the host nation’s name on their jerseys as part of the tournament badge, even if the matches are held outside the host country. For example, during the 2021 T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s jerseys featured India’s name even though the tournament was played in the UAE. Similarly, Pakistan wore jerseys with India’s name during the 2016 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The BCCI has also refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament. Recent reports suggest that India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, may skip the captain’s meeting at the start of the event.

A PCB official criticized BCCI’s stance, saying, “BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don't want to send their captain for the opening ceremony, and now there are reports that they don't want the host nation's name printed on their jersey.”

The PCB has urged the ICC to step in and ensure that tournament traditions are respected.

The Champions Trophy 2025 will feature eight teams and 15 matches, taking place from February 19 to March 9. The games will be held in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.

The tournament will kick off with Pakistan facing New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi. A highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
