BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is heavily showing interest in becoming the next chairman of ICC, replacing Greg Barclay.

Greg Barclay, who belongs from New Zealand, will hold the position till November. Barclay has wished that he is ready to serve more if board members want him to but it does not seem very likely as Jay Shah is interested in taking over the post.

According to sources, Jay Shah also lobbied during the ICC meetings in Birmingham. If he opts to participate in the election, there will be hardly any candidate against him.

Recently, the ICC Board released the procedure for the election of the new chairman in November, according to which the candidate who gets a simple majority will assume the position for a period of two years from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2024.

It must be noted Jay Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council and has to remain in this position until 2024, however, if he becomes the chairman of the ICC, then he will have to leave the ACC.

On the other hand, PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja had more than one informal meeting with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah.

As per PCB sources, former Pakistan captain has a cordial relationship with BCCI. After retirement, he often visited India as a commentator.

However, the political tension in both countries is so high that the cricket boards cannot take any decision regarding the early revival of bilateral matches.
