England cricketer Ben Stokes is set to sign a two-year central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), as reported by The Guardian.

Last year, Stokes had opted for a one-year deal despite the ECB offering longer contracts. Players like Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Mark Wood signed three-year deals, while Ollie Pope and Jofra Archer agreed to two-year contracts.

Stokes has dealt with ongoing knee issues throughout his career, which have impacted his ability to bowl for long periods. After undergoing knee surgery, he participated in England’s Test tour of India earlier this year. His return to bowling came during the West Indies series, where he showed his body could handle the demanding schedule. Although he missed the recent home series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury sustained during 'The Hundred', the new multi-year deal suggests the injury isn’t a major concern.

England duties remain Stokes' top priority. Even though he wasn’t playing in the Sri Lanka Tests, he traveled with the squad to focus on his rehabilitation with the medical team, ensuring he wouldn’t rush his comeback. Stokes is expected to return as captain for England’s three-match Test series against Pakistan, which begins on October 7.

Earlier this year, Stokes withdrew from both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 World Cup to prioritize his fitness for the English summer.
