Lahore Qalandars’ middle-order batsman Ben Dunk has revealed the reason why he chews a gum on the field.

Dunk’s scintillating 99 not out, which included 12 sixes, the most in an HBL PSL innings, spearheaded an eight-wicket win for Lahore Qalandars over arch-rivals Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

"There are a lot of videos going around of me chewing gum but there’s nothing special in the gum. It helps me remain calm in the field," said Dunk in a press conference after the match.

“It’s probably a habit I should quit but it helps me reach targets," he added.

The left-handed batsman crafted the highest third-wicket partnership of 140 with Sohail Akhtar, which helped Qalandars chase down the 188-run target with five balls spare.

"I felt that the chase would be difficult as the Kings pulled a big total despite our good bowling," he said. "We were able to chase the total with Sohail [Akhtar's] help."

"He did a tremendous job and his part should not be ignored," Dunk, who was named player of the match for his extraordinary knock, added.
