Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has urged people to campaign for a team to be launched from Rawalpindi inorder to add another dimension to the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL).

While talking in a YouTube video, Akhtar was eager to see the match between Rawalpindi and Islamabad in the future because of the local rivalry between the twin cities.

“The atmosphere in Rawalpindi during matches has been excellent and I think a team should be launched from Pindi which should be named Rawalpindi Express,” said Akhtar. “I think we should all campaign for this to happen because Pindi boys are famous for their attitude and the clash between Pindi and Islamabad will be an exciting one. It will be great to see the Pindi boys trounce the burger kids of Islamabad.”

Despite Lahore Qalandars’ thumping win against Quetta Gladiators on Saturday, Akhtar said that current owners might sell the franchise if they don’t qualify for the playoffs of the tournament this year.

“I think, if Lahore Qalandars don’t qualify for the playoffs this year, the franchise will be sold [by the current owners] because there is no point in investing so much money if you can’t produce results on the field,” he said. “The management isn’t capable enough to take smart decisions. I tried to convince them to do better in this regard but they did not listen to me which is one of the reasons why decided to part ways with them.”

Lahore are currently placed at the bottom of the HBL PSL 5 points table with two wins under their belt after six games.
