Multan Sultans' demolition of Quetta Gladiators has confirmed qualifications for Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi. However, what does that mean for the Sarfaraz-led team?
Earlier, Sultans became the first HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise to ensure qualification as they have only lost one game throughout the group stages.
Although Islamabad United sits two points clear with a game in hand, Quetta Gladiators can still sneak their way past if their stars align.
In order for Quetta Gladiators to qualify for the playoffs, the following scenarios have to occur simultaneously:
If all three things happen then Quetta Gladiators will be level on points with Islamabad United. Once that happens, the qualification will be determined on basis of the net run rate (NRR).
Quetta Gladiators have to beat Karachi Kings by quite a margin and hope that Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans both beat Islamabad United in a comprehensive manner.
Currently, Gladiators have -0.917 NRR compared to Islamabad’s +0.536.
The chances are very slim but yes, mathematically, Quetta Gladiators can still qualify for the playoffs.
