‘Can’t score century every time’: Haider Ali after duck on Vitality Blast debut

Haider Ali, the Pakistani cricketer, expressed his perspective on the unpredictability of the game after facing a disappointing start to his Vitality Blast debut with Derbyshire. Haider, who is participating in his first-ever county season, acknowledged that it is not possible to score big every time he walks out to bat.

Reflecting on his golden duck in his first Vitality Blast match against Lancashire, Haider Ali maintained a positive attitude and emphasized the importance of making a full effort to perform.

“It’s my first ever county season with Derbyshire, the coaching staff and fellow players are fully supporting me. It’s not possible to score a century or a fifty every time you go out in the field to bat. This is part of the game but what I can do is to make a full effort to perform. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” Haider said to a local media outlet.

Despite the initial setback in his Vitality Blast debut, Haider Ali expressed enthusiasm about participating in the T20 Blast. He described the tournament as highly competitive, featuring experienced and exciting players.

“I’m very excited to play in T20 Blast as these games are very competitive and some very experienced and exciting players are participating in it. Also, these matches are broadcast live on TV so really want to show my performance in the tournament,” he said.

Having previously made a significant impact during his T20I debut for Pakistan in England back in 2020, where he scored a fifty in his first international match, Haider is buoyant to have a great season with Derbyshire.
