The letter seeks India's official explanation for its reluctance to tour Pakistan
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially rejected a proposed hybrid model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, following India's stance against traveling to Pakistan. In a letter sent to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, the PCB emphasized its commitment to host the tournament exclusively in Pakistan, according to sources cited by a local news channel.
The PCB’s letter to the ICC follows directives from the Pakistani government, which has expressed firm support for Pakistan as the sole host. The letter also demands official clarification from India on its reluctance to tour Pakistan, questioning the reasons behind the refusal.
“The hybrid model is not an option,” the PCB clarified, underscoring that it would not consider playing India at any alternate venue. Pakistan has also indicated the possibility of opting out of the tournament entirely if a hybrid solution is imposed.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan during February and March 2025, but India’s potential absence has cast uncertainty over the tournament.
Reports from Indian media had previously suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited security concerns as the reason behind India's reluctance to participate in Pakistan.
Last Sunday, sources confirmed that the ICC communicated to the PCB that India’s government has yet to approve a team visit to Pakistan. In response, the PCB is reportedly exploring various options, including boycotting matches against India in future ICC events if India continues to avoid touring Pakistan.
