The PCB had expected a full-house for the Lahore fixture, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited a lack of government clearance, disrupting the original plan
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, with India's matches being held in Dubai following their refusal to tour Pakistan. Depending on their progress in the tournament, India will play either three, four, or five matches in the UAE. These include a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan on February 23, initially set to be hosted at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had expected a full-house for the Lahore fixture, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited a lack of government clearance, disrupting the original plan. Despite the change in venue, Pakistan stands to gain substantial revenue from hosting matches in the UAE.
A senior PCB official confirmed that over half of the ticket revenue from these games will go to Pakistan. An agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is in its final stages and will soon be formalized in writing. The Dubai Cricket Stadium, which has a seating capacity exceeding 25,000, is expected to be packed, especially for the Pakistan-India match.
Historically, Indo-Pak games have attracted massive crowds, and this time is no exception. Fans from the UAE, as well as India, Pakistan, and other countries, are expected to attend in large numbers. Indian team matches in Dubai are also likely to see significant turnout.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to announce ticket prices and sale schedules soon. However, the PCB acknowledges that if India advances to the knockout stages, Pakistan’s revenue could be impacted, particularly since the final will no longer be held in Lahore. This change has also disappointed local fans who were eager to witness the event in their home country.
