Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain, has officially entered the player draft for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL)
Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain, has officially entered the player draft for the upcoming 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This exciting announcement was shared on PSL’s social media, accompanied by a banner that read, "A class act! Sri Lankan ODI and T20I captain Charith Asalanka enters the #HBLPSLDraft."
Asalanka, aged 27, is the first Sri Lankan player to register for the PSL 10 draft, adding another international star to the league’s growing list of talent. Since making his international debut in 2021, Asalanka has become a key figure in Sri Lankan cricket. He was appointed white-ball captain in July 2024, succeeding Wanindu Hasaranga.
The left-handed batting all-rounder has represented Sri Lanka in 68 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and three Test matches, scoring 3,500 runs across formats. His record includes three centuries and 20 fifties. In T20 cricket, Asalanka has played 134 matches, but his franchise experience outside Sri Lanka is limited to the International League T20 and the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
This year’s PSL draft is historic, as it will take place in Gwadar, Balochistan, on January 11, 2025, marking the first time the event is hosted in the region.
The pick order for the draft has also been finalized. Two-time champions Lahore Qalandars will make the first pick in the platinum category, followed by Karachi Kings. Quetta Gladiators will have the third pick, with Peshawar Zalmi taking the fourth. Last year’s runners-up, Multan Sultans, and reigning champions, Islamabad United, will make the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
