Scotland fast bowler Charlie Cassell has set a new record for the best bowling figures on an ODI debut, taking 7 wickets for 21 runs in 5.4 overs against Oman in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match held in Dundee.

This achievement surpasses the previous record held by South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, who took 6 for 16 on his ODI debut against Bangladesh in July 2015.

In his remarkable debut, Cassell started his international career with a bang by trapping Zeeshan Maqsood lbw and bowling Ayaan Khan with his first two deliveries against Oman. Although he narrowly missed a hat-trick, he soon had Khalid Kail caught off his fourth delivery. Cassell then dismissed Shoaib Khan in his second over, bringing his figures to an impressive 1.3-1-0-4.

Mehran Khan became Cassell's fifth victim, followed by Pratik Athavale, placing him alongside Rabada and West Indies' Fidel Edwards as the only bowlers with six wickets on ODI debut.

Cassell completed his record-breaking performance by having Bilal Khan caught behind, securing his seventh wicket and ending Oman's innings at 91 runs in 21.4 overs.
