Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim has spoken out about the decision to drop middle-order batter, Fawad Alam for the upcoming Test series against England later in December.

Fawad scored 33 runs in four innings of three Tests earlier this year against Australia while scoring 25 runs in his only Test in Sri Lanka.

“Fawad Alam is a fighter. He displayed good performance after making a comeback on the national side after a long time,” Wasim said.

“However, he could not perform well in the previous three series, which is why we selected Saud Shakeel,” he added.

Despite scoring a century in his first Test appearance in 2009 against Sri Lanka, Alam was dropped from Pakistan's squad two matches later.

After more than a decade on the sidelines, the left-hander made his long-awaited return to the national team during Pakistan's 2020 tour of England.

The 37-year-old has played in 19 Test matches and scored 1011 runs, averaging 38.88, including five centuries and two fifties.

Pakistan and England will face each other in the first Test, which starts December 1 at Rawalpindi. The second and third Tests will be played at Multan and Karachi, respectively.
