Chris Lynn smashed a quickfire 81 off just 27 balls to help Australia Champions beat West Indies Champions by eight wickets in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 on Wednesday. The match was played at the County Ground.
Australia chased down the target of 143 in only 9.3 overs, with Lynn’s explosive innings setting the tone for a dominant win.
The Aussies got off to a flying start, reaching 34 runs in the first three overs. Shaun Marsh was dismissed early for 7 by Ashley Nurse, but Lynn took control with aggressive stroke play all around the ground. He reached his half-century in just 20 balls and struck eight sixes and six fours before falling in the eighth over with the total at 111.
Ben Dunk finished the match in style, hitting an unbeaten 30 from just 9 balls, which included three sixes.
Ashley Nurse and Nikita Miller were the only bowlers to take wickets for West Indies.
Earlier, West Indies were restricted to 142/8 after being put in to bat. Peter Siddle led Australia’s bowling attack with impressive figures of 3/28 in four overs. Nathan Coulter-Nile also chipped in with two wickets.
West Indies lost opener William Perkins early for 10. Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith added 36 runs, but their dismissals triggered a collapse. Gayle made 21 off 15 balls, while Smith scored 22 from 20. Chadwick Walton, who had starred in the previous match, was dismissed for a golden duck.
Lendl Simmons was the top-scorer for the West Indies with 29 off 28 balls.
