Pakistan’s former cricketer-turned-commentator Ramiz Raja, in a video on the YouTube channel Cricket Bazz on Thursday, stated that coaches should not be hired on a permanent basis for any national cricket sides around the world.

The 58-year-old compared Pakistan’s head coach Misbahul Haq and India’s head coach Ravi Shastri while discussing how a coach should be hired on tours or opposition basis.

“When Ravi Shastri used to play against us he was a misfit in this culture because he had aggression. He was a go-getter and a team player. He wanted to be a player like Imran Khan. He has taken that attitude into the Indian team and fortunately, the captain he has is similar to that,” Raja said.

“The training upbringing of Misbahul Haq is different. He is like Dhoni not too emotional. He should go into modern thinking. Power hitting is a subject and if Pakistan is behind the top 3 teams in power hitting you can find expert coaches for it. Employ them for a tour. I don’t like the idea of coaches being on a permanent basis. It should be tour and opposition-based, use them and move on,” he added.

The former cricketer urged Misbah to bring a sense on aggression to his coaching which, Raja believed, was in our DNA.

“If you want to win Test matches in spin bowling so you should have a world-class spin bowling coach for that period. Likewise, if you are going to Australia then you should have a world-class pace bowling coach. Misbah should take a new direction which should be based on aggression which is in our DNA. Courage is needed and doesn’t need to be afraid of losing because if you will not lose then how will you learn. If your talent and strategy are strong then you should not be frightened of the hiccups and roadblocks,” he concluded.
