South Africa's Corbin Bosch became the first South African cricketer to score a fifty and take four wickets in a Test debut
History was made at SuperSport Park in Centurion as South Africa's Corbin Bosch became the first South African cricketer to score a fifty and take four wickets in a Test debut. Bosch achieved this remarkable feat during the ongoing first Test against Pakistan.
The 30-year-old all-rounder, who replaced the injured Keshav Maharaj, showcased his talent from the very first ball he bowled, dismissing Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood. Bosch finished with impressive figures of 4/63 on day one, helping South Africa bundle Pakistan out for 211.
On day two, Bosch’s contributions extended to the batting crease. With South Africa struggling at 191/7, still trailing by 20 runs, Bosch played a sensational unbeaten knock of 81 runs. His efforts helped the Proteas recover and post a total of 301, securing a crucial lead of 90 runs. Bosch’s innings featured powerful stroke play and composure under pressure, ensuring South Africa stayed in control.
Remarkably, Bosch became only the third cricketer this century to score a fifty and claim four or more wickets on Test debut, joining New Zealand’s Tim Southee and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. The overall list includes just 16 players in Test history to achieve this rare double.
Players to score a fifty and take 4+ wickets on Test debut (Since 2000):
Tim Southee: 5/55 & 77* vs England, 2008
Wanindu Hasaranga: 4/171 & 59 vs South Africa, 2020
Corbin Bosch: 4/63 & 81* vs Pakistan, 2024
Bosch’s heroics have placed South Africa in a commanding position as Pakistan begins their second innings, trailing by 90 runs.
