The fans of a sport make it special and are also very important to the game's growth. However, the crowd cheers were missing during the third ODI between England and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) because the cameraman could not detect anyone in the stands.

After winning the series' first two games, Australia maintained their dominance in the third game on Tuesday. Both openers, David Warner and Travis Head, scored centuries to get the team off to a good start.

The match was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), one of the world's most famous cricket stadiums. On the other hand, the shocking scenes at the stadium elicited fans' reactions on social media.

As the TV cameras primarily focused on the stands, there were rarely any people present to watch the game. Given the amount of support cricket receives in the country, it was strange to see such a low turnout for an international game at the MCG.

The low turnout sparked a debate about the viability of longer forms in the face of T20 cricket. The One-Day Internationals (ODIs) were scrutinised, with fans claiming on Twitter that the 50-over game's existence is in jeopardy.

I can’t recall such a small crowd at the MCG for a men’s ODI. Couldn’t be confident there’s many more than 1000 here. #AUSvENG pic.twitter.com/LbDtXy3Idj

Don't think I've ever seen a smaller crowd at the MCG. Only has to be 2,000 there at this point#AUSvENG

Lack of crowd at the MCG for Australia v England one dayer is a sure sign that one day cricket is dead.
