The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has convened a crucial meeting of its Board of Governors on July 6 in Lahore, marking the first gathering in nearly four months.

According to a local media report, the primary agenda is the approval of the financial budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, following the expiration of the previous budget on June 30, a standard procedural requirement.

Notably absent from the agenda is any discussion concerning the recent underwhelming performance of the national cricket team in the T20 World Cup and recent series against New Zealand, Ireland, and England.

The report further added that the PCB disclosed that while the focus is strictly on budget approval, Board members retain the option to raise additional matters during the meeting, including concerns about team performance.

The PCB management has yet to initiate a comprehensive review of the team's performances, despite expectations for such an evaluation during the upcoming BoG meeting.

The absence of such an agenda item suggests a reluctance within the PCB to publicly engage on the matter, although insiders indicate that a preliminary review process has begun behind closed doors, albeit without urgency.

Attention appears to be shifting towards the upcoming red-ball series against Bangladesh in August and England in October-November, diverting focus from immediate scrutiny.

Future decisions concerning the national team's direction, especially in light of its T20 World Cup performance, are expected following a meticulous assessment. This evaluation will also factor in Pakistan's preparations for upcoming events, including the ICC Champions Trophy next year and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
