David Miller's dissent earns ICC reprimand

South African cricketer David Miller received an official reprimand for contesting an umpire's decision during a T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eights Group 2 match against England at Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium.

Miller breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct and was issued one demerit point, marking his first offense within a 24-month period. Accumulating four demerit points within two years can lead to a ban from either one Test match or two ODIs or two T20Is.

The incident occurred in the 19th over of South Africa's innings when Miller, facing a full toss from England's Sam Curran, expected the umpire to call it a no-ball for height. When this did not happen, Miller showed dissent by asking for a review, which is not permissible for such decisions.

The on-field umpires Chris Brown and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Joel Wilson, and fourth umpire Chris Gaffaney charged Miller, who accepted the reprimand.

South Africa went onto win the match by seven wickets, securing their place in the next stage of the T20 tournament. They lead Group 2 of the Super Eight with four points.
