ECB allows Pakistan players to not promote controversial products

Pakistan cricketers are not promoting controversial products in the ongoing English County Cricket Championship, including betting companies, surrogate websites, and alcohol.

The advertisements for betting companies are common in England, and besides that, other things that are not appropriate to Pakistani society are also promoted through cricket. However, the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have granted special permission to Pakistan cricketers to refrain from promoting them.

The likes of Mohammad Abbas, Azhar Ali, Hassan Ali, Haider Ali and Saud Shakeel are representing different County clubs in the ongoing season.

Sources informed Express News representative that most contracts specifically say that Pakistan cricketers will not become a part of any surrogate advertising, and will also keep a distance from alcohol promotion. They will also not be part of any pork or adult entertainment advertising. All counties are fully complying with this aspect included in the contracts.

A Pakistani cricketer has revealed that religious sentiments of Muslims are fully taken care of in County Cricket. No one forces them to promote any prohibited item, and a lot of facilities were provided to them during Ramadan as well.

It must be noted that a big controversy took place over surrogate advertising in Pakistan in recent days. During PSL 8 playoffs, Multan Sultan’s skipper Mohammad Rizwan had participated in the final matches by placing sticker on the sponsor company's logo.
