The series will begin on May 29 and includes three ODIs and as many T20Is
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the squads for their upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, with Harry Brook named as the new captain. The series will begin on May 29 and includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and as many Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
One of the major changes in the squad is the omission of all-rounder Liam Livingstone from both the ODI and T20I squads. Livingstone had previously captained England in Jos Buttler’s absence during an ODI series against the West Indies last year but has now been left out.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Liam Dawson has been recalled to the national setup after nearly three years. He will feature only in the T20I squad. Another key change sees Phil Salt dropped from the ODI side, following struggles to adapt his aggressive T20 style to the 50-over format.
Despite some changes, England has largely retained its ODI core. Veteran batter Joe Root continues in the squad, and 37-year-old Adil Rashid holds his place as the team’s lead spinner. Young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has been included in the T20I squad and is seen as Rashid’s likely long-term successor.
This series marks England’s first white-ball assignment of the season and comes at a time when Jos Buttler, who is still part of both squads, is involved in the IPL with Gujarat Titans. The Titans currently top the IPL 2025 points table and are expected to reach the knockout stages, which may cause scheduling conflicts.
The ECB acknowledged the situation, saying it supports the IPL and the BCCI and had issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) based on the original IPL schedule. However, any changes or extensions to the IPL calendar will be reviewed carefully, especially if they affect England’s squad availability.
