England women defeated the Pakistan team by nine wickets to increase their chances for the knock-out stages.

Match number 24 of the ICC Women World Cup was played between England and Pakistan at Christchurch. Both the teams started their world cup campaign with a losing streak of three matches each.

Pakistan were on the verge of being knocked out of the competition but it was a must-win game for the four-time champions England.

The skipper of England, Heather Knight, won the toss and chose to bowl. The Pakistani batter got off to a poor start and kept on losing wickets.

Katherine Brunt did the early damage for England, dismissing Nahida Khan on the first ball of the match on a golden duck, and the momentum was never regained by the Girls in Green.

Sidra Ameen was the only batter who showed some resistance and scored 32 runs as Pakistan was bowled out for 105 in 41.3 overs.

Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone bagged three wickets each for England.

The English women lost only one wicket in pursuit of 106. Tammy Beaumont was dismissed by Diana Baig, which was the only success for the Pakistani women. England chased down the modest target in only 19.2 overs and won by nine wickets.

Danni Wyatt was declared player of the match for her brilliant unbeaten 76*, including 11 boundaries. England will face Bangladesh on Sunday, March 27, which is a must-win game, whereas Pakistan will end their world cup campaign on Saturday, March 26, against New Zealand.

The final of the mega event will be played on Sunday, April 3, at Christchurch.
