Eoin Morgan, analyzed Pakistan's performance, emphasizing the necessity of consistent play in top-tier tournaments
In a highly anticipated India-Pakistan match, the Indian team showed a brilliant performance, decisively defeating Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.
While talking to Sky Sports, former England captain, Eoin Morgan, analyzed Pakistan's performance, emphasizing the necessity of consistent play in top-tier tournaments. Drawing a comparison to boxing, Morgan highlighted that while occasional setbacks are tolerable, a string of errors can prove costly for a team.
"When you want to beat the best sides in the world are in this tournament. You have to bring your A-game. So I got a boxing match. You can't have a bad round. You can have a bad blow here and there. But it can't be consecutive with lots of wickets or clusters of wickets,” said Morgan.
Morgan recalled a similar scenario in the New Zealand versus England tournament opener, where England displayed potential but couldn't form significant partnerships, ultimately missing a crucial victory. Morgan believed Pakistan's performance against India echoed this pattern.
"And we did see it in the first game here in New Zealand against England, where England was starting to get away and throwing the odd punch here and there but couldn't quite land up blow, which is a substantial partnership that would take them up to a winning par score. I think Pakistan made those mistakes today," he further added.
It is worth noting that India bowled out Pakistan for 191 after their rivals collapsed from 155-2 in the World Cup clash in Ahmedabad.
