Gwadar Cricket Stadium hosted an exhibition match for the first time on Friday, with the Gwadar Dolphins taking on Showbiz Sharks.

The match was dedicated to Pakistan's Ali Sadpara, mountaineer, who was declared dead yesterday.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Sayed Zulfi Bukhari,  lead the Gwadar Dolphins, while Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive, Wasim Khan, was the captain of Showbiz Sharks.

The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Christian Turner presided over the toss, which was won by Bukhari who decided to bowl first.

Speaking on this occasion, Turner said that he is hopeful of England playing an international game in Gwadar in future.

“I am hopeful that one day we will see England playing here in Gwadar Cricket Stadium. Obviously there is a way to go for it and England touring Pakistan later in the year is a step in the right direction,” said Turner.

Showbiz Sharks, who boasted of celebrities like Ali Zafar, Aijaz Aslam, Fakhre Alam, Shehzad Roy and Faisal Qureshi, scored 176-9 in their allotted 25 overs.

The aforementioned total proved to be enough as the Dolphins kept losing wickets at regular intervals, ultimately falling short of the target by 12 runs.
