Faf du Plessis delivered a record-setting performance in a crucial Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 match, guiding Texas Super Kings (TSK) to a strong position against MI New York at Grand Prairie Stadium.

The 40-year-old former South African captain smashed a brilliant 103 off 53 balls, hitting five fours and nine sixes to guide TSK into the playoffs of MLC 2025. This was du Plessis’ second century of the tournament, having earlier scored one against the San Francisco Unicorns.

With this knock, du Plessis became the first player in T20 history to score two centuries after the age of 40, highlighting his impressive fitness and consistent form even at this stage of his career.

He also overtook Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Australia’s Michael Klinger to become the captain with the most T20 centuries, taking his total to eight.

Most T20 centuries as captain:

  • Faf du Plessis – 8
  • Babar Azam – 7
  • Michael Klinger – 7
  • Virat Kohli – 5
  • James Vince – 5

Babar, who has been a standout performer across multiple T20 leagues including for Pakistan, Karachi Kings, and Peshawar Zalmi, has seven centuries as captain and has scored over 5,200 runs in 144 T20 matches while leading.

In addition, du Plessis now holds the record for the most centuries in Major League Cricket history, with three centuries to his name. He surpassed New Zealand’s Finn Allen, who previously held the record with two.
