Faheem Ashraf’s last ODI appearance was against arch-rivals India in the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023
Faheem Ashraf’s inclusion in Pakistan’s 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has sparked a lot of debate on social media, with many fans questioning his recent performances and how the selection was made.
Faheem, whose last ODI appearance was against arch-rivals India at the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2023, is one of four players who have returned to the national ODI team. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that his inclusion was based on consistent domestic performances since he last featured in the ODI team.
“Faheem’s 34th and final ODI appearance was in September 2023, and since then, he has been one of the most consistent domestic performers across all formats,” said a PCB spokesperson.
Despite the explanation, the decision has faced criticism from fans, with many questioning Faheem Ashraf’s selection as “unfortunate” and “questionable.” Some fans have expressed frustration, pointing out that Faheem has been out of form and ineffective, making his inclusion seem unjustified.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s national selector, Asad Shafiq, defended Faheem’s selection, emphasizing his experience and his role as a fast-bowling all-rounder.
“Faheem Ashraf’s experience and presence give us the option of a fast-bowling all-rounder,” Shafiq said in a PCB-released statement.
