Reports suggest that the Pakistan team is preparing a well-balanced squad with seven batsmen, four fast bowlers, three spinners, and one wicketkeeper
Pakistan’s experienced left-handed batter, Fakhar Zaman, is expected to make a comeback to the national squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will take place from February 19 to March 9, hosted jointly by Pakistan and the UAE.
Reports suggest that the Pakistan team is preparing a well-balanced squad with seven batsmen, four fast bowlers, three spinners, and one wicketkeeper. Mohammad Rizwan is likely to be the sole wicketkeeper for the defending champions.
Fakhar, 34, has represented Pakistan in 82 ODIs and remains a key player, provided he meets the fitness requirements outlined in his central contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The left-hander was not part of recent tours to Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa but has regained form in the Champions T20 tournament. He scored 303 runs in ten matches at an average of 30.30, including two half-centuries.
During a recent interview, Fakhar addressed a past controversy regarding a tweet supporting Babar Azam. He clarified that his tweet was misunderstood as criticism of the PCB’s decision to rest the star batter.
“Later on, I did think it would have been better if I didn’t do it [the tweet]. But people misunderstood that I criticised the board’s decision, which is 100% wrong,” Fakhar explained.
He further revealed that the tweet was aimed at journalists and former cricketers who suggested dropping Babar Azam from the squad. Fakhar also mentioned that he had requested a two-month break from the PCB due to health issues.
If selected, Fakhar’s return could strengthen Pakistan’s lineup as they aim to defend their Champions Trophy title.
