The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued tenders for the commercial partnership rights for the creation of ‘fan parks’, which would be erected during the upcoming Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL). The parks will allow the fans of all franchises to watch their teams perform on the big screens.

The PSL 5 is scheduled to be played from February 20 to March 22. This is the first time in the leagues history where all matches will be played on home soil. Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan are scheduled to host the event.

The PCB is working on different initiatives that can help the event develop in the country. ‘Fan parks’, which have been a staple of the International Cricket Council (ICC) events, have been added to the league in order to help bolster the overall fan experience.

Each franchise will have a ‘fan park’ during the event. The ICC World Cup 2019 in England had ‘fan zones’ which catered to thousands of fans who could witness the action on the big screens. The PCB is hopeful that fans in Pakistan would follow suit.

A franchise official claimed that the move would prove beneficial for the league while bringing fans closer to the action. However, the official believed that the parks should be created in cities such as Peshawar and Quetta where fans will not be able to witness their home teams perform in their local grounds.
