Faruque Ahmed, a former national cricketer and ex-chief selector, has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), replacing Nazmul Hasan.

This change was confirmed by Iftekhar Ahmed, the chairman of the BCB's umpires committee, during a conversation with Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

The BCB is currently holding a board meeting at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, where Nazmul Hassan formally resigned, and Faruque Ahmed was elected as his successor.

Iftekhar Ahmed, also known as Mithu, confirmed that Faruque Ahmed has taken over as the head of the BCB.

Having served four terms as the leader of Bangladesh's cricket governing body, Nazmul had been staying in London with his wife, avoiding the public eye due to the unrest sparked by student protests against the recently dissolved Sheikh Hasina government.

Faruque Ahmed, who has played seven ODIs for Bangladesh, brings experience from his previous roles as the BCB's chief selector.

He held this position from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2013 to 2016.
