India's chances of ending a global trophy drought since their 2013 Champions Trophy win went up in smoke once Head got going with Labuschagne
Opener Travis Head hit a sparkling 137 to power Australia to a record-extending sixth World Cup title with a convincing six-wicket win over India in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Chasing a tricky 241 for victory in the final, Australia slipped to 47-3 before the left-handed Head hit his second century of the tournament to steer the team home with seven overs to spare.
Reacting to India’s defeat, their former cricketer took to social media platform ‘X’, to congratulate the Australia team.
Many Congratulations Australia on winning the World Cup. They were the best side on the day of the finals. Travis Head was simply unbelievable, was the POTM in WTC finals, won the semis for Aus and played one of the best ever innings in a WC Final and finished the game.

Heartbreak for India but Rohit and his men must hold their heads high for a memorable run at the World Cup. One defeat does not define this team. Congrats to Australia for being crowned World Cup champions for a sixth time, and to Travis Head for a blistering century. Rohit will…

Started the campaign with two losses. Came into the World Cup on the back of two bilateral series losses. But they know how to win the trophy. ๐
Well done ๐
I know it didn't end the way it was meant to. They came up today against a team that played better as every team in this World Cup has some day. But this was an outstanding, powerful performance that India, and the fans, should be mighty proud of.
